The story behind Luka Project.
Joshua Luke Scott founded the Luka Project in 2024 with one mission; ‘to help people nourish their body with flavourful, highly nutritious food, that is cooked from scratch’. “Luka”; a nickname Joshua’s mother would often call him, also means ‘bringer of light’ in latin. A meaning Joshua feels is extremely appropriate for what food can bring to the human body. As with light, we have energy! The ‘project’ reference comes from Joshua’s feeling that helping people to eat nutritiously well is a project with no end date, especially given the world we now live in today, where we consume so much processed food. Where ‘ease’ has become the norm; either by takeaway or what is silently packed into supermarket shelf food (keep an eye out next time you go, you will be surprised what appears in the most simple options you likely think are-‘very healthy’). Joshua is often quoting “you wouldn’t put diesel in a petrol car and expect it to run”. So why in the modern world do we do the equivalent to our bodies and expect them to function with no problems, or wonder why we can’t meet our optimum potential both physically and mentally.
Growing up Joshua had two passions; sport and food. If he was not at football training or school, you would often find him helping his mum in the kitchen preparing dinner. Or more often than not, filling his face with food (as you can see on the left photo, not even willing to spare the ducks a bite to eat). Joshua was fortunate to be bought up in a household where home cooking was favoured, always having a home cooked meal on the table. Often being cited as the family critic when it came to what was dished up on the plate. After realising he would never grace the grass of the english premier league. Joshua turned his attention to education where he graduated from the University of Southampton with a business management degree, shortly after he made his way to the ‘big smoke’ (London) to start his career in FinTech where he occupied various sales orientated roles. Putting his passion for cooking to the side (regretfully). He is now making up for lost time and has a purpose behind why his cooking is so important and wants to share that with others wanting to journey along with Luka Project.
In October 2022, Joshua, left his role at FIS after 7 years to join a Series A venture capital funded FinTech startup based in Berlin to lead their sales team. A role that would stretch Joshua both mentally and physically. However, he still managed to find time to cook delicious evening meals and explored his passion for cooking further by taking cookery classes in the evening. However, it was in the early part of 2024 where Joshua started to experience health problems and soon after got diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (a chronic condition where by inflammation is found in the colon- the largest part of your digestive operating system). At the age of 30, Joshua refused to accept that medication would become the only way to control the condition and symptoms.
Joshua decided to take time out of work to focus on healing and setting up the foundations for a life uninterrupted by IBD. Joshua focuses on many holistic health pillars (exercise, sleep quality, mental health..), however his main pillar is what was always right in front of him his entire life- food! Joshua has recently spent many hours at the farmers market, butches and fishmongers in order to seek out the best ingredients to curate recipes on show here at Luka Project. He is combining his deep understanding for nutrition, inflammation and cooking to eat in a way that fuels his body to perform without making any compromise on the flavour of food that hits his plate. Joshua is now working and helping people in many ways fuel their body to heal, optimise, perform and ultimately live a healthy life. There are many ways people can interact with Luka Project; reach out and work with Joshua, or simply just follow along and integrate some of his delicious recipes into your life.
